Katie M.

Katie is an animal lover and healthcare professional who enjoys spending time outdoors. She is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of her patients while also supporting animal welfare.

In her free time, Katie loves hiking and exploring nature, finding balance and inspiration in the great outdoors. Her life is a blend of caring for both people and animals, driven by a deep passion for making a positive impact in every way she can.

Rachel Shipperbottom

Rachel Shipperbottom

Rachel is an animal enthusiast, Yukon adventurer, and healthcare advocate. She has always had a soft spot for animals, from rescuing strays to marveling at wildlife and nature in the Yukon.

In her professional life, Rachel is deeply passionate about providing compassionate support to families and children, helping them navigate their healthcare journeys.

Lucy Steele

Lucy Steele

Lucy grew up in Whitehorse and has loved raising her two “almost grown” boys here. She has spent 25 years in Yukon government as a social worker and has always had the privilege of working with children and families. She is happy to tell anyone that Lynx Health Child and Youth Clinic feels like the best parts of all her working worlds combining.

Lucy, our Patient and Family Navigator, helps provide support, guidance and advocacy to families where needed. The navigator can pass on information and links to valuable community resources and assist caregivers in working through these processes. The goal is to alleviate some of the burden on families and provide support and comfort where possible.

Pediatrics:

Dr. Sara Citron

Dr. Sara Citron

Dr. Sara Citron has been living and working as a general pediatrician in the Yukon Territory since 2019. She completed her medical school training at McMaster University, and her pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa. She is originally from Toronto, Ontario.

After graduating, Dr. Citron spent time in working in Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon, before deciding to call the Yukon home.

Her job as a general pediatrician in the Yukon combines many of her passions – early relational health, adolescent medicine, mental health and acute emergency care.

Dr. Citron is an active member of the Canadian Pediatric Society’s First Nation, Inuit and Métis Committee. She is also actively involved in advocating for children’s literacy initiatives across the Yukon, collaborating with programs such as Early Words to reach families in remote Communities.

Outside of work, you will find Dr. Citron exploring the Yukon’s wilderness with her partner and 2 children.

Dr. Gilbert Lam

Dr. Gilbert Lam

Dr. Lam grew up in Vancouver, completed medical school at UBC and pediatrics residency in Ottawa. He pursued extra training in Child & Youth Mental Health, Mindfulness, and Global Child Health. He has worked at the BC Children’s Hospital and Royal Columbian Hospital in Vancouver providing pediatric care. He loves linking health with food and nutrition, and is a graduate of the Northwest Culinary Academy professional program.

Dr. Katharine Smart

Dr. Katharine Smart

Dr. Katharine Smart is an experienced medical leader and advocate who constantly challenges the status quo in medicine. Dr. Smart’s clinical work has spanned the breadth of Pediatrics. She started her career as a pediatric emergency medicine physician at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary. She has worked in Australia, Vancouver and across Canada’s north. She came to the Yukon in 2017 to build a child health program for the territory using a model of social pediatrics. She loves her clinical work and the amazing children, youth and families she cares for.

Dr. Smart is a past president of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), where in 2021 she became the 10th woman to serve in the organization’s 155-year history becoming a recognized and respected medical voice in Canada. Dr. Smart has been recognized as one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women and was awarded the Medical Post’s Changemaker Media Award and the Waterfalls Global Award. In recognition of her advocacy for primary care and family medicine she received an honourary membership from the Canadian Family Physicians of Canada. She has held many leadership positions including president of the Yukon Medical Association. She sits on the boards of Ronald McDonald House charities, ACTUA, a STEM education outreach organization for youth and SE Health.

Dr. Smart is a passionate communicator and sought-after media expert, keynote speaker, panelist and podcast guest. She is the host of SPARK: Conversations, Children’s Healthcare Canada’s monthly podcast series.

She is the mom to two teenagers and a small dog. In her free time she loves travel, reading, music and riding her Peloton.

Dr. Daniel Wang

Dr. Daniel Wang

Dr. Daniel Wang (he/him) is a general pediatrician at Lynx Health. He completed his Pediatric residency training in Saskatchewan in 2020 and soon started working in Whitehorse. He enjoys working with children of all ages and is a passionate advocate for his patients’ well-being. As part of his work at Lynx Health he also provides travelling clinic services to Dawson City and Old Crow. He splits his time between the Yukon and Saskatchewan working hard to try to assist with gaps in pediatric care where he is able.

He has a special interest in educating the next generation of students and residents. In his spare time, he enjoys disc golf, ultimate frisbee and any disc/frisbee related activities. He is happily married and welcomed the birth of his first daughter in 2024.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry:

Dr. Sophie Flor-Henry

Dr. Sophie Flor-Henry

Dr. Sophie Flor-Henry was born and raised in Edmonton. She completed medical school at the University of Calgary, psychiatry residency at the University of Toronto, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry subspecialty training at the University of Alberta. Upon graduating, Dr. Flor-Henry moved to the Yukon where she now lives and works providing psychiatric services to children, youth and families. She values working collaboratively with other agencies and care providers in the territory. She remains connected to the University of Alberta Child and Adolescent Psychiatry program as the Rural Rotation Coordinator and as a Clinical Lecturer.

She enjoys hiking, road trips, and campfires; she will also continue to cheer for the Oilers, win or lose.

Dr. Willough Jenkins

Dr. Willough Jenkins

Dr. Willough Jenkins is a Canadian and American board certified psychiatrist specializing in child psychiatry. She is also a pharmacist and thus has a particular focus and interest in psychopharmacology. Dr. Jenkins completed her pharmacy, medical and psychiatric training at the University of British Columbia in Canada.

She currently works as the Psychiatric Emergency and Consultation Liaison Service medical director at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego and is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. She provides clinical care to Yukon families in person when she is in the territory, and also virtual care.

Locums:

Sometimes, our physicians are away. If that is the case, you may see a visiting doctor who is providing coverage during that time.

Learners in Clinic:

Our clinic is proud to support the training of medical students and residents (doctors who are completing their training) to contribute to medical education as well as the utilize their expertise and skills. Because of this, your appointments may be booked to see a medical learner, which allows us to book more patients and shortens wait times. All cases are reviewed and supervised.
